Reviews

Review by: Gary, gbeegle@frontiernet.netOn 17 Aug 2000
As I stated with the other 2 CD's in this set,the sound is really great, nice clean sound on this Vigotone set.I see one error listed above on the track listing, track #7 should be listed as "only people" not "out the Blue".This 3 CD set consists of outtakes, sessions mixes, and demos from the Mind Games album.I am reviewing each CD seperately, and this is my review of CD #2 which consists of Alternate takes and some demos. On the review for disk one,I spoke about "Rock n' Roll people",well on this CD #2,is a piano version of John demoing this great rock song.It is great. The demos of "I promise" and "Make Love not war" eventually became the song "Mind Games".Both demos were presented on John's anthology in very edited form.It is nice to have them here complete. As far as the alternates,I find "tight as" version #2 (track two) interesting because in the break you can hear John yell out lead guitarist David Spinozza's name. While John was having his "lost weekend" with May Pang,it was r!umored that Yoko was having a "lost weekend" of her own with Spinozza. So that makes this track a bit interesting. The two versions of "Out the Blue" are very nice. The sequence of demos of "Call my Name" are also very interesting stuff to hear.Just John and his guitar, great stuff. Some of the alternate tracks on this one sounds similar to the commercial versions.Overall however this is a very nice CD and the set of 3 is wonderful.Vigotone did a great job on this set.I'd rate this second CD an 8 due to the fact that a few of the alternates are too much like the commercial versions. It is a great CD however, and if you get the chance to buy the set, don't pass it up,buy it.You will not be sorry.

The sound is the best you can get. I love the Aisemusen track, Lennon's vocals is low (burried in the mix), and all the tracks have been speed-corrected and equalized. No fade-ins like the Lost Lennon Tapes. Get this box set.
