Comments
Compilation of footage from varying sources, in varying quality, and of varying interest.

The publicity trumpets "Through their many sources and connections, British Lions have gathered the best quality and the rarest footage of The Beatles to surface so far. Much of the material on these discs not only rivals what was on the Anthology series, but even surpasses much of the official footage we have so far."

Harrumph. Much of it has been taped from TV broadcasts... Although it is to be borne in mind that the third disc is something of an additional and lesser part of the set: the first two are superb.

The Beatles
The first known footage of the group, sold at auction from Sotheby's on 18 September 1996 for $30 000. Originally thought to be a show at Southport's Floral Hall on 20 February, but subsequent enquiries confirmed the venue as the Youth Club of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church Hall in North Rd, Tranmere, Birkenhead, Cheshire - the date is not entirely certain. The Martin Scorsese documentary convincingly synchs it with George singing "Nothin' Shakin' (But The Leaves On The Trees)" from the Hamburg tapes.
The first known footage of the group, as [partially] broadcast on "Extra" in 1999.

The story behind the song - allegedly, it was inspired by a newspaper item about one Melanie Coe, who by odd coincidence, won a miming competition judged by Paul on "Ready steady go" a couple of years earlier. Believe it or not...

Best DVD boot ever! Image that rivals the one on ANTHOLOGY and sometimes even surpasses it. Footage never seen before, and this is the weakest of the 3 DVDs, it really rules! Just some highlights of this spectacular DVD :

Track 02 - It's The Beatles
Note: all circulating versions of It's The Beatles have the same flaws - The intros of I want To Hold Your Hand and Money are trashed.
Same here, however, the overall picture quality is much better than any version I've seen. And on disc three there is outtakes footage
of the group doing This Boy! Another first.

Thank you Lucky stars 11/15/63
This is the complete show with all the Merseyside acts (Billy J. Kramer, Cilla Black, Jerry and the Pacemakers, etc) and most of them
are singing Beatles songs! The quality is fair but having the entire show for the first time is more than worth it.

It Won't Belong 2007 -
British Lions work their magic here along with the FAB guys with Apple quality, creativity and technical skills, a joy to watch!

CBS Evening News 11/21/63
America's very first glimpse of The Beatles. This historical broadcast is found on one or another Beatles bootleg, but it is
incomplete and in atrocious quality, here it is in prestine quality and complete.

Simply the BEST!! 10 out of 10!!!
Review by: WickieOn 25 Nov 2010 at 14:26 CEST
Most of this material circulates on the internet in avi or mpeg format for the last couple of years. Maybe that will explain the quality of this boot. If this is actually the case it's a nice opportunity to assamble all mpeg's/avi's on one (or in this case three) disc(s).
I'm DL-ing this disc as we speak right now so I can't judge the actual DVD. The above remarks to the tracks are pretty clear, though. Perhaps our dear reviewer can shine his light on Vol. 1 and 2, too? (14 April 2008)

Oops: more than two and a half year passed since my previous comments. Today I noticed by accident me forgetting to rate this beauty. It's 8 out of 10 because of the less interesting disc 3.
