A Promo CD full of Dick James Music songs...

Liner notes:
Dick James first entered the music business not as a publisher but as a singer, hitting the charts in 1954 with the British TV theme "Robin Hood" (produced by a young studio assistant named George Martin). Shortly thereafter, James began his cateer as a song plugger, and in 1961 formed his own publishing company, Dick James Music (DJM). In 1962, while looking desesperately for publishing support for his new Liverpool group The Beatles, manager Brian Epstein approached Dick James with a tape of "Please Please Me" -- and history was made (Note: The Beatles' three songs represented here make their first appearance anywhere in DIGITALLY REMASTERED STEREO).

Other DJM discoveries from the Mersey Beat era include Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Hollies and The Troggs. In 1967 James secured the composing talents of session player Red Dwight -- soon to become Elton John. By the end of the decade DJM was one of the most renowned music publishers worldwide. James remained active throughout the 1970's, developing hits from country to classy pop to heartbreaking rock'n'roll.

In October 1986, PolyGram International Music Publishing purchased his timeless catalogue. THE BEST OF DICK JAMES MUSIC VOL. 1 on Compact Disc represents just a few of its many classic songs. Due to the number of legendary copyrights, additional volumes are also planned.

Edit of the three last takes recorded on 26 Nov 1962. Lewisohn states that 18 takes were recorded that day INCLUDING John's harmonica overdub, so it seems that either take 16, 17 or 18 is the harmonica overdub.
