Take 5
5 Jul 1968
The Beatles
Early stage of Take 5.

There are 3 variations of this recording: this one is from 1968 before a lot of of overdubs. The second is the SESSIONS mix from 1984, which segues into XMAS TIME IS HERE AGAIN. A third has been fabricated by a bootlegger who edited the cold ending of this take onto the end of the SESSIONS mix to avoid the segue and make it seem like this take ended cold. Naughty but nice.

The Beatles
Unedited take 1.
Unedit mix.

Sourced from "Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 7" where they used a dub of the master tape, but it is faded in after the playing has started, and the tape stops just before George says "Let's hear that back!". The only place to hear that is on the "Abbey Road Show 1983" bootlegs.

This is the same take as on "Anth3", but not the same mix.

Since 1993, when these CDs came out by BIG MUSIC, so much of the material in the three box sets, were surplanted by better quality sound in so many different bootlegs, that the sound on this can seem a bit poor. Also, it is best to have your ESHER demos in one nice lot, and your GOODBYE Demos, with the impromptu tape that Paul and Donovan did, while getting ready to record MARY HOPKIN's album, including Heather. Highlights include the instrumental version of THE INNER LIGHT, and the song THANK YOU GURU DEV. This CD forms a bookend with ALONE TOGETHER, the other BIG MUSIC cd of outtakes from 1968, where you can find THE MAHARISHI SONG. However, hold out for cleaner sounding recordings, if possible.
