This movie, from 20th Century Fox, features black and white World War II newsreel footage and clips from feature films put to the sounds of guest stars performing Lennon/McCartney songs.
A memorably sarcastic musical coupling occurs in the film when footage of Hitler at his mountain retreat in Berchtesgaden is shown accompanied by "The Fool On The Hill" !

The film is directed by Susie Winslow, produced by Sandy Lieberson and Martin J. Machat, from a dream by Russ Regan (Executive Producer)

Music Director, Lou Reizner.
Arranged and Orchestrated by Wil Malone. The London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Harry Rabinowitz, and The Royal Philharmonic by David Measham.

The Bee Gees actually recorded six of the songs, the other three being "Lovely Rita", "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "She's Leaving Home", but their vocals were replaced when other artists became available.

Musical director, Lou Reizner, had better success with his Bee Gees/Peter Frampton film, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band.

This film blends news reels, private home movies, and real speaches made by some of the politicians and Hollywood celebrities of World War II AND clips from Hollywood's WWII movies. At times it's hard to tell the two apart.
All of this is played with songs (and partical songs) of Lennon/McCartney performed by some of the top performers of the time (1976).

I've had the original vinyl soundtrack for this for many years. A few years ago I came across it on cdr. Now, finally, the dvd.
While this may not get just a whole lot of time in the dvd player, it's worth a few viewings. The mixes seem different from the soundtrack (maybe it's just me). But the footage seems to make the music better, some of which are just awful on the soundtrack.
Plus, there's the extra Give Peace A Chance, which was left off of the soundtrack.
And there's a cool movie trailer following the movie.
Even if you hate the soundtrack, you might want to pick up this dvd. I'm glad I did.
