NOT FADE AWAY 1969 - 1971 SUE ME SUE YOU 1972 - 1975 AS TIME GOES BY 1976 - 1980 FREE AS A BIRD 1981 - 1994

When Paul McCartney "officially" announced the breakup of The Beatles in March 1970, it came as a shock to millions of Beatles fans. However, those who closely followed the Fab Four were not surprised.
Dissention among the band had begun as early as 1968 during the recording of the White Album.
The White Album was clearly a collection of solo songs released as The Beatles. Many of the songs were recorded by only two or three of The Beatles and some- times only by the song's author. By the time "Let It Be" was being produced, it was clear The Beatles' days were numbered. Somehow, though, John, Paul, George and Ringo were able to go back into the studio and record their finest album, "Abbey Road". But the magic which brought them together to record "Abbey Road" could not be recreated again and the end of The Beatles became a sad reality. Thankfully, the music did not end. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr continued to write, record and perform hundreds of hours of music after the breakup. Life and music goes on...bra!
As performers, artists and songwriters their careers saw many ebbs and flows. Each would realise great successes as well as some public and private failures. Throughout it all the ex-Beatles could never escape The Beatles' shadow. Rumours of Beatles reunions went on for years until finally all hope of a reunion died with the senseless murder of John Ono Lennon in 1980.
ARTIFACTS III is a small sampling of rare and unreleased songs chronologically arranged to allow a perspective of where the ex-Beatles were musically and ideologically during similar time periods. For instance, in 1971 while John was singing "Imagine", Paul was recording "Back Seat Of My Car". Ringo sang "It Don't Come Easy" and George was performing for the Concerts for Bangla Desh. So sit back and enjoy the latest edition of ARTIFACTS: THE SOLO YEARS.

"Free - as a boid"
During the spring and summer of 1994 George, Paul and Ringo reunited to record several new songs for the soundtrack to "The Long & Winding Road" - a film history of The Beatles. More significant was Yoko's decision to allow the ex-Beatles to remix and overdub an original 1980 Lennon demo, "Free As A Bird". The song would retain Lennon's original vocals and a new verse written by McCartney would be recorded. Included here in is the unaltered original John Lennon demo.

Good quality compilation of items that was previously available. If you don’t wish to collect all of the individual CDs, this would be a very good alternative. Perhaps more importantly I found this fun to listen to!
