"Artifacts II" is a continuation of The Beatles rarities collection begun with "Artifacts" in 1993. As with the original box set this set includes the most elusive and rarest tracks currently in the hands of private collectors - many of which have come to light only within the past year.

More than thirty years have passed since The Beatles began writing and recording the music which would change the face of popular music forever. During those thirty plus years miles and miles of magnetic tape recorded and preserved The Beatles at work and at play, at home and in the studio, on the radio and on television, and on numerous stages around the world.

Here, on "Artifacts II", is the best of the rest; And as on "Artifacts" we have arranged the music chronologically and included recording and background data to help in understanding the material. Think of these discs as historical audio documents of the Golden Age of The Beatles.

"Step Inside Love" was written by Paul as the theme song for Cilla's TV series. Ringo appeared on her first show where he was in a comedy scetch with Cilla and sang "Act Naturally".

John could also be quite cutting if the mood fit him as is apparent on "The Maharishi Song". Not really a song, but an off-the-cuff narrative of this eye opening experience with the Yogi in India.

This alternate mix of "Dont Pass Me By" was also on the Peter Sellers Tape. And for these sound bites Ringo raided the EMI tape vaults to add some "personality" to his musical present for his friend and "Candy" co-star.
18.

A unique glimpse into the recording session for "Sexy Sadie". Pay close attention to Paul and John's conversaion concerning the recording.

Alternate Take
28 Aug 1968
The Beatles
This is an unreleased alternate take of one of Lennon's greatest songs; This version could easily have been chosen for the "White Album". John dedicated the song to Mia Farrow's sister, Prudence, who studied meditation in India with The Beatles.

RM1 Take 21
9 Sep 1968
SS.WHI.23.21.RM1
Found on the mono White Album LP and released in 1980 on the US Rarities LP.
Whoever said Paul McCartney was soft just needs to give this song a listen. While this mono mix has appeared on "Rarities", it appears here for the first time on compact disc. It differs from the stereo version in that the vocals are more pronounced, there is laughter at the beginning and "beeping" sounds throughout, the drumming at the end is different, and there is no fade out and in when in the song ends, and therefore Ringo's "I got blisters on me fingers!" cannot be heard.
22.
I'm So Tired(Lennon/McCartney)
Song
Remix
8 Oct 1968
The Beatles
"I'm So Tired" is basically a solo recording completed by Lennon on the evening before his 28th birthday. George and Ringo were not present for these sessions and Paul's contributions were negligible.

The Beatles' Sixth Christmas Record
released 20th December 1968 - Lyntone LYN 1743/4
This fan club record was pieced together from various recordings made individually by Paul, George, Ringo, and John. The most memorable bit is the guest appearance of Tiny Tim who sings (in his own unique style) "Nowhere Man". Charming.

The mono version of Helter Skelter sounds much better on vinyl and some of the songs aren't the best quality, but it is definitely worth getting.
