Unleash The Love is the second solo album by Mike Love. It was released on November 17, 2017. This 2 disc set features Mike Love and his current Beach Boys touring band with a few guests. No involvement from Brian Wilson, Al Jardine or David Marks.

Disc 1 features new songs as well as songs that Mike Love had been working on for years but never released. The only exception is track 2, Getcha Back, which was originally released by the Beach Boys.
Disc 2 features nothing but Beach Boy songs that have been re-recorded for this cd set..

This is the album I expected from Mike Love after he won his lawsuit over Brian Wilson claiming he co-wrote a lot of Beach Boy songs but didn't get credited (or compensated).
This is basically a re-recording of Beach Boy songs by Mike Love and his touring band with Bruce Johnston in tow. Kind of a studio version of what you might hear at one of his Beach Boys shows.
There are a few guests appearances including Mike Love's children singing backing vocals and even on lead. John Cowsill's version of Wild Honey really reminded of Blondie Chapman. That was a nice little surprise.
Instrumentally speaking, this sounds like any other band covering Beach Boy songs. Nothing too special here.
Vocally speaking, the harmonies are tight and good. Jeff Foskett really does shine. Mike Love has always been known for close micing (the microphone up really close to the vocalist). For the first time, I can hear his age showing in his voice. I'm not putting him down for it, but it's just the first time I've noticed it. I didn't hear it on That's Why God Made The Radio in 2012. At 77 years old, he sounds a lot better than some of his contemporaries. It's a lot more noticeable in Paul McCartney.
One odd thing, while I didn't change it for this listing, I noticed that the song writing credits were flipped. Before they were Wilson/Love. For this cd it was changed to Love/Wilson. Love was also added to Wouldn't It Be Nice which I hadn't seen before.
For me, the second disc is better than the first disc, but not by much. Wild Honey is the best track by far due to John Cowsill. This set feels like it should have been released as two separate single discs because the discs are so different. He'd probably sell more discs if he released a live concert with his current touring band, but I don't see that happening. Probably think it would hurt his live shows, even though he seems to be playing smaller venues and casinos.
